I said: what up, though?
What’s up everybody, welcome to the show. Hopefully, you caught what I was doing there, and it did not get copyright claimed. If it did, well, you saw what it was. If not, I came in dancing to Kendrick Lamar.
Well, well, well, ladies and gentlemen, shout out to the Philadelphia Eagles. I was all wrong. The NFL wanted a three-peat, but the Eagles said: “Not so fast,” and they got it done, letting everybody in the NFL world know that defense wins championships.
Now, I want one person to be paying attention. Y’all thought I was bad before? Listen. Sisqó had a song back in the ’90s—yeah, the ’90s—called “Unleash the Dragon.” That’s how I’m about to be. I’m about to unleash the dragon because who has been telling you about the importance of a defensive line for four years? Man, me!
Let me be very clear: the Philadelphia Eagles are the class of the NFC, not the Detroit Lions. We were kidding ourselves. We got caught up in the hype, stricken by fan bias, but the reality is the Detroit Lions were never going to beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, I’ll say this: there could’ve been some narrative at play. Had the Lions actually beaten the Washington Commanders, maybe we see a couple of calls going our way. But what did the Philadelphia Eagles say to the refs and to the narrative? They said: “Get over here.” They took it out of the refs’ hands.
I didn’t watch the game live, but I saw on Twitter an early offensive pass interference call on A.J. Brown that seemed questionable. Again, I didn’t watch a single snap live. But as I scrolled through Twitter, it was clear—this was an absolute blowout.
Defense wins championships. As a matter of fact, let’s take a look right now. One minute and 59 seconds left, it’s 40-4, and the Eagles have the football. This wasn’t even a game. Patrick Mahomes got sacked six times. Six times!
Come on, bro. And that’s with four people rushing. Hey, listen—Howie Roseman is better than Brad Holmes. Take chances, make mistakes, get messy. Playtime is over, bro. Brad Holmes, get it done.
The good news is we all start over tomorrow. Everyone’s celebrating that the Chiefs didn’t three-peat, so there’s no history made. The NFL definitely wanted to see that, but nope. We all start fresh and so clean, clean.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce—we are never, ever, ever going to three-peat. Taylor Swift’s at home winless. But they got two of the last three, and three out of the last five, so they have enough.
But Howie Roseman got it done. He took a chance on Jalen Carter. Now, we still got Jahmyr Gibbs, maybe we swing both ways. He took a chance. You gotta take chances.
Chris Jones got hurt and didn’t return to the game—or so I saw—but this is why I complained as much as I did. Y’all thought it was just complaining, but what’s up on that? I’m about to be relentless this offseason. You can watch anybody else, but I’m bringing the heat.
Speaking of watching somebody else, I was on the podcast today with Spirit of Detroit. It’s going to be pinned in the comments. Check it out—a two-plus-hour conversation with good vibes. But I’m about to be relentless.
I’ve been telling y’all for three-plus seasons that this is how you win games. You win it all with a defensive line. The Eagles and Howie Roseman showed us how it’s done.
The question I have for you is: does Brad Holmes see that? Is he going to continue to play it safe and hope we get there that way?
Let’s take a look at these stats. Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times for 31 yards. He also had a pick-six—Darius Slay, former Detroit Lion. C.J. Gardner-Johnson, former Detroit Lion, now Super Bowl champion. Congratulations to Darius Slay, not so much to C.J. GJ—makes me sick to my stomach.
Let’s see who got those sacks for the Eagles. Josh Sweat—he’s about to get paid. Milton Williams—he’s about to get paid too. I think he’s about to be a free agent. Jalen Carter didn’t do much, but it doesn’t matter—he’s about to have a championship.
One dude had two and a half sacks. Come on now. Defense wins championships. Bottom line. Point blank. Period.
Now it’s time for Brad Holmes to get it done. No more conversation. The defensive line must be properly addressed. Sign Khalil Mack if you can get him cheap. Trade for Myles Garrett. Take the best available defensive end in the first round.
Mark my words: Brad Holmes has two years to make it to a Super Bowl. If he doesn’t, some of you will begin to turn on him. He will go from the best general manager we’ve ever had to “he’s not enough.”
If we make a Super Bowl, that all goes out the window. If not, in two seasons you will start to question whether he can get us there. Sheila Hamp might decide to keep Dan Campbell but move on from Brad Holmes.
This is the calm before the storm. Brad Holmes has one job this offseason. If you take a cornerback in the first round, we’re going to have a problem unless you’ve already addressed the defensive line.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Philadelphia Eagles are your 2024 NFL champions and they are the class of the NFC. The Lions want to be there, and you know how we get there. We fix the defensive line.
Thank you for watching. If you’re still here, I appreciate you. If you understand me, I appreciate you. And if you’re ready for this ride, my rants, and my explosions depending on what this team does, I appreciate you as well.
Take care of yourself and each other. Check out the podcast from Spirit of Detroit. And as always, Go Lions. Got to keep it a buck.
