The Packers GM has opened up on the possibility on keeping Brandon McManus as the team’s place kicker for at least another year.K

The Green Bay Packers’ General Manager, Brian Gutekunst, has expressed a strong interest in retaining veteran kicker Brandon McManus for at least another year. McManus, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March 2025, has made a significant impact since joining the Packers mid-season in 2024.

Performance Highlights

McManus joined the Packers on a one-year contract in October 2024, after a tumultuous period for the team’s kicking game. He successfully converted 20 of 21 field goals and made all 30 extra points during the regular season, showcasing his reliability and skill under pressure.

Notably, he also made two game-winning field goals and hit three kicks over 50 yards, including a crucial 55-yarder in challenging weather conditions at Lambeau Field

Gutekunst’s Comments

In his recent press conference, Gutekunst stated, “We would [like to keep McManus back next year]. Had a good conversation with him before he left. Obviously, how he solidified that journey (at kicker) we were going on” His remarks underline McManus’s role in stabilizing the kicking position for the Packers after a series of struggles following the departure of long-time kicker Mason Crosby.

Future Considerations

As the Packers prepare for the offseason, they find themselves in a favorable salary cap situation with over $40 million available, which positions them well to negotiate with McManus and strengthen their roster The team’s confidence in McManus is evident; Gutekunst remarked that having him return would greatly enhance their specialist group alongside punter Daniel Whelan

In summary, McManus’s performance and Gutekunst’s commitment suggest a strong possibility that he will continue to be a key player for the Packers as they look to build on their recent successes.
