The Detroit Lions lost starting cornerback Amik Robertson early in the divisional-round game against the Washington Commanders.
Robertson went straight to the locker room, and has been ruled out due to his elbow injury. NFL Network reports Robertson is heading to a local hospital for further evaluation of his elbow.
The Lions are rolling with Kindle Vildor and Terrion Arnold at cornerback, while Brian Branch and Ifeatu Melifonwu continue to boost the depth between safety and the slot. Vildor has already made a couple of stops in this game, and was one of the team’s starting cornerbacks in last year’s run to the NFC title game.
Jayden Daniels was already going to present a handful of problems for Detroit’s defense. Now, the Lions have to move even more pieces around as they try and stop the dynamic rookie Commanders quarterback.
Robertson has been a major player down the stretch for the Lions. He moved from the slot to outside cornerback after they lost Carlton Davis II for the season. Robertson has looked like a natural on the outside, including a starring performance against the Minnesota Vikings and Justin Jefferson in Week 18.
As of this writing, the Commanders have taken a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter after Jared Goff lost the ball on a strip-sack.
