The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars guard Steven Jones to a reserve/future contract. Pittsburgh hosted Jones on a pre-draft visit during the draft season last year.
Jones went undrafted and eventually inked a contract with the Jaguars. He did not play in a game this season and spent the entire year on the team’s practice squad. Now, he will join the Steelers, hoping to make a roster push.
Jones is 6-foot-5, 342 pounds, and was a multi-year starter at Oregon. His testing was poor and tanked his stock, but Jones has a spot in the NFL as a mauler who can move bodies.
Along with Doug Nester, who profiles as a guard, the Steelers signed two guards on Tuesday. During his career at Oregon, he played anywhere from guard to tackle on both sides, and he seems versatile in his position.
The Steelers signed 17 players as part of their reserve/future signings.
