On his return to the US Open for the first time since his retirement, Roger Federer received a rousing reception from fans.
Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is one of the most loved players in the world and it showed when the 43-year-old made his first appearance at the US Open since retirement. Federer returned to the Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first time since 2019 when he played his last match at Flushing Meadows.
The five-time US Open champion was present for the evening session on Tuesday (September 3), featuring the women’s singles quarterfinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen and the men’s singles quarterfinal between Grigor Dimitrov and Frances Tiafoe.
When the cameras panned to Federer and he appeared on the screen, the crowd at the stadium erupted in cheers, which went on for a few minutes until the Swiss maestro got up and waved to the fans.

It is worth noting that Federer has an 89-14 win-loss record at the season’s final major in New York, winning five consecutive titles from 2004 to 2008. He also reached the final in 2009 and 2015. In his last US Open appearance in 2019, Federer reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov.
While Roger Federer retired in 2022 from professional tennis, the Swiss legend has ensured his memories stay in the minds of tennis fans. After releasing a documentary titled ‘Federer: The Twelve Final Days’, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has come up with a new book, a visual biography from Assouline, succinctly titled Federer.
The book has 336 pages of photographs from Federer’s life and career. The tennis maestro, his wife Mirka Federer, and sports journalist Doris Henkel together to compile this book over two years. Along with pictures of the player on the court, it also offers a look into in his personal life.
The photographs included are never-before-scene shots, memorabilia from Federer’s childhood, and photos taken by the tennis legend and Mirka firsthand. Throughout the book, the player adds insight to select visual moments with handwritten notes.
