BREAKING NEWS: Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Signs With The New York Giants – VC

There is a great deal of news this week regarding a certain former Green Bay Packers quarterback. Of course, this is a reference to current New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers. Earlier today, it was announced that owner Woody Johnson has fired New York general manager Joe Douglas, who negotiated the trade that saw Rodgers go from the Packers to the Jets in early 2023.

There has been a great deal of talk regarding Rodgers this year, and very little of it has been positive. The Jets fired Robert Saleh (who has since joined Matt LaFleur‘s staff as an advisor), demoted Nathaniel Hackett (Rodgers’ offensive coordinator both in Green Bay and New York), traded for Davante Adams, and are still just 3-8 on the season.

Indeed, it has seemed as if Douglas and the entire Jets organization bent over backwards to appease their future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback since they acquired him, which included signing some of his friends from the Packers.

Tim Boyle, Allen, Lazard, and Others Followed Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay

Even before the Jets completed the trade for Rodgers, they went out and signed Hackett as their new offensive coordinator. They also signed free agent wide receiver Allen Lazard, who played with the four-time NFL MVP for four seasons in Green Bay.

After the trade was done, backup quarterback Tim Boyle, wide receiver Randall Cobb, and safety Adrian Amos also all signed with New York.

The results were disastrous.

Cobb had his worst season as a pro, catching just five passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. He is now an analyst for the SEC Network.

Amos was cut midway through the season and finished the year on the Houston Texans. He is currently a free agent after spending part of the 2024 season with the San Francisco 49ers. Amos appeared in just one game after spending a few weeks on their practice squad.

Boyle played in three games (two starts) for the Jets, 62.3% of his passes for 360 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions. He, too, was released midway through the season and finished the year with Amos on the Texans.

After the season, Boyle signed a reserve/futures contract with the Texans. However, he was released when the roster was trimmed to 53 and, once again, became a free agent.

He was not out of work long, though, as he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins and signed to their practice squad. Boyle did appear in two games for Miami, who lost quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for multiple weeks after he suffered another scary concussion. He completed 57.7% of his passes for 153 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

The Dolphins released Boyle back on October 26.

Now, nearly a month later, the former Packers backup quarterback is headed back to New York, but this time with the NFC East’s New York Giants:

Boyle was added to New York’s practice squad, though with how poorly Daniel Jones has played this season, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he could take the field for them.

The Giants are Boyle’s sixth team in the last five seasons. In addition to the Packers, Jets, Texans, and Dolphins, he has also played for the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.
