2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro joined a growing group of players retiring from professional tennis, back in 2022. However, the Argentine will play one final match against 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in Buenos Aires.

Del Potro is considered one of the unluckiest players in tennis history, as injuries hampered his otherwise sensational career. Despite the setbacks, Del Potro is ready to step away from the sport. Before his farewell match, the former World No. 4 admitted feeling nervous and anxious.

Del Potro has not played a tennis match since losing to Federico Delbonis at the Argentina Open in 2022. The 2009 ATP Finals runner-up was seen in tears during the final game of that match.

Earlier this year, he made an appearance at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he was spotted practicing with Djokovic. He will join Rafael NadalAndy Murray, and Dominic Thiem in the wave of retirements expected in 2024.
