Del Potro and Djokovic share a unique rivalry filled with respect and memorable moments. At the 2024 US Open, they joked about past matches. The 24-time Grand Slam champion teased the 2009 US Open champion about defeating him in the 2018 US Open final, calling it his greatest achievement. Del Potro replied with a smile, reminding Djokovic of his victory at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Their playful banter even touched on their Olympic matchups, with Djokovic laughingly calling Del Potro his Olympic nemesis.

Their rivalry included many intense matches. Before the 2018 US Open final, Djokovic praised Del Potro, calling him a “gentle giant” and admiring his strong character. The final itself was a hard-fought battle that lasted nearly three hours, with the Serb winning in straight sets. Despite the result, their mutual respect left a lasting impression on fans.

Del Potro’s career highlights include a standout 2013 season when he beat top players like Djokovic, Roger FedererRafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. Djokovic predicted big things for him in 2014, but a wrist injury derailed Del Potro’s momentum. Over their careers, they played 20 times, with their 2013 Masters clash standing out. It showcased both players’ determination as Djokovic overcame a bizarre second-set slump to win in three thrilling sets.
