The Miami Dolphins found themselves needing reinforcement at the safety position after allowing Jevon Holland, their former second-round selection, to depart in free agency for the New York Giants.
Interestingly, they turned to another New York team to fill the void, securing former New York Jets safety Ashtyn Davis on Tuesday night, as reported by Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz. At 28, Davis was chosen 68th overall in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, having previously played college football at California.
During his NFL tenure, Davis has been versatile, operating as both a strong safety and free safety for the Jets, participating in 69 games and starting in 22. Throughout his career, he has recorded 175 tackles, forced 3 fumbles, recovered 4 fumbles, defended 15 passes, and made 8 interceptions, 5 of which came in the past two seasons.
Davis joins Ifeatu Melifonwu in strengthening Miami’s defensive backfield in this free agency period. Additionally, the team has re-signed Elijah Campbell. We will continue to provide updates on Miami Dolphins free agency developments as they happen.
UPDATE: According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Ashtyn Davis’s contract is valued at $2.5 million, with the potential to earn up to $3 million in his one-year agreement.
