The San Francisco 49ers will be tasked with making a decision on Brock Purdy’s future this offseason. Could they look to replace him entirely via trade? General Manager John Lynch has already noted that the team wants Purdy back, but that could quickly change if a better option becomes available.

“What we know about Brock is he’s our guy,” Lynch told NBC Sports. “We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time. He’s done so much for our organization. He’s won big games and had a little tougher task as we all did this year with some of the things that happened this year. We just could never string games where we’re all together. Through that, he continued to lead. He continued to play at a high level. So we have every interest in him being around.”

The Jacksonville Jaguars hired Liam Coen as their new head coach and rumors began to swirl about the Pittsburgh Steelers being interested in acquiring Trevor Larence. Amid rumors, FanSided’s John Buhler named the 49ers as a potential landing spot for Lawrence.

“Rather than paying $60 million in annual salary to Brock Purdy, why not trade for Lawrence to get the more talented player,” questioned Buhler. “While Purdy has gotten more out of his talent than Lawrence has up to this point, I would trust Kyle Shanahan to do unbelievable things with him in his offense.”

Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million deal in 2024. Lawrence is a Pro Bowler and has two 4,000-yard passing seasons. He has dealt with loads of dysfunction around him, but the 49ers seem free of that. Lawrence has already won a playoff game despite all of the turmoil in the Jaguars organization.
