The San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday officially announced their second trade of the offseason.
Running back Jordan Mason has now been dealt to the Minnesota Vikings, along with the 187th overall pick in this year’s draft. The 49ers are receiving the 160th overall pick in this year’s draft, along with a sixth-round selection in the 2026 draft.
The trade was first reported during the first week of free agency. It’s now official as the 49ers’ revamp of their roster continues.
Mason was a restricted free agent this offseason. The team used a second-round RFA tender to keep him in the building at a $5.3 million one-year salary. Instead, Mason earned a new contract with the Vikings and the 49ers gained a couple of assets in the move.
The pressure now turns to the 49ers front office and coaching staff to adequately replace their leading rusher from last season. Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, Israel Abanikanda and Patrick Taylor III are the RBs remaining on the roster heading into the NFL draft in late April where the 49ers will likely aim to acquire another player at the position.
San Francisco on Wednesday also made their signing of long-time special teamer Siran Neal official. Neal has been in the NFL since 2018 when he was a fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills. He’s carved out a career primarily as a special teams contributor, and he should help a dreadful 49ers special teams unit improve in 2025.
