The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed OL Austen Pleasants and LB Chandler Wooten to the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the practice squad, the team placed TE Mason Pline on the Practice Squad Injured Reserve List. In addition, the team waived CB Ambry Thomas from the Injured Reserve List.
Pleasants (6-7, 330) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2020. Throughout his five-year NFL career, he has spent time on the practice squads with the Jaguars (2020), Carolina Panthers (2021-22), Los Angeles Chargers (2022-24), Chicago Bears (2023-24) and Arizona Cardinals (2023-24) and has appeared in two games with the Panthers and Chargers. In 2024, Pleasants spent time on the Chargers, Cardinals and Bears practice squads prior to being released from Chicago’s practice squad on December 3.
A 27-year-old native of Ironton, OH, Pleasants attended the University of Ohio (2015-18) where he appeared in 28 games (20 starts).
Wooten (6-3, 230) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. Throughout his three-year NFL career, he has spent time on the practice squads with the Cardinals (2022) and Carolina Panthers (2022-24) and has appeared in 20 games with the Panthers and registered 11 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In 2024, Wooten spent time on the Panthers practice squad and appeared in three games where he totaled six tackles prior to being released from Carolina’s practice squad on November 7.
A 25-year-old native of Acworth, GA, Wooten attended Auburn University (2017-22) where he appeared in 43 games (nine starts) and registered 137 tackles, five passes defensed and two interceptions.
Pline (6-6, 254) originally signed to the team’s practice squad on August 28, 2024.
Thomas (6-0, 190) was originally drafted by the 49ers as the 102nd overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft and appeared in 42 games (11 starts) and registered 65 tackles, 12 passes defensed, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also appeared in five postseason contests (four starts) and tallied 21 tackles and one pass defensed.
