8 injured when driver slams Mercedes into crowd celebrating Philadelphia Eagles’ win-HN

Eight people suffered injuries and a woman was in police custody after the vehicle they drove reportedly slammed into a crowd of people celebrating in Philadelphia on Sunday following theEagles playoff win over the Washington Commanders, police said.

The Philadelphia Police Department told USA TODAY its officers responded to North Broad and Spring Garden streets about 9:30 p.m. to investigate a vehicle hitting multiple pedestrians.

The intersection where the vehicle struck the crowd took place is about a half mile north of Philadelphia City Hall.

According to a preliminary report from police, a silver 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 struck multiple pedestrians before being stopped by police.

“Eight individuals sustained various injuries, ranging from pain to fractures,” police said in a news release.

The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was taken into custody, and detectives continued to investigate the case Monday, police said.

Officials did not release the woman’s name or say what she was arrested for.

It was not immediately known what caused the crash but an initial post on the department’s X page said the incident did not appear to be intentional.
