Although Jannik Sinner has been making headlines for his on-court performances, a potential ban on him still looms large. Former World No.1 Andy Roddick, while lauding the Italian for his successful run at the Australian Open, said his biggest opponent is not a player but the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Sinner triumphed over World No.2 Alexander Zverev in the final to clinch his third Grand Slam trophy. But after over two months, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) will declare whether he would continue to play or stay on the sidelines.

CAS is involved due to WADA’s interference as the anti-doping organization challenged the verdict given by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) whose judgment had come out in Sinner’s favor.

Sinner, in the press conference following the win, refused to talk about the CAS trial. He landed in controversy in March last year when the banned drug clostebol was found in his sample twice. Clostebol contaminated him because Sinner’s ex-physio was using a spray that contained the substance.

Jannik Sinner departed from Melbourne on Monday evening, a day after his Australian Open triumph. But before that, he wrapped up his campaign by celebrating with his team and his brother, Marc Sinner.

The World No.1 extended his winning streak on the hard-court Grand Slam events to 21 matches. His three back-to-back Major wins on hard courts also made him the fifth player in the Open Era to achieve the feat.

His first two Majors came at the 2024 Australian Open and the 2024 US Open, which he lifted with a five-set win over Daniil Medvedev and a straight-set win over Taylor Fritz, respectively.
