Atlanta Braves Waste No Time: $15M Starter Joins Team After Devastating Spencer Strider Injury…TS.DHUNG.

The Atlanta Braves could be in the market for starting pitching soon if they want to turn their season around. With Spencer Strider back on the injured list, a trade could be coming soon.

Strider finally made his much-anticipated return from injury, on to strain his hamstring while playing catch. The Braves are off to a poor start to the season, but have too much talent to punt on the year. Newsweek’s Zach Pressnell suggested that the Braves could trade for St. Louis Cardinals starter Erick Fedde.

“The perfect low-risk solution is St. Louis Cardinals veteran pitcher Erick Fedde,” wrote Pressnell. “Fedde would be a key piece of the Braves’ rotation for the entire season if Atlanta acquired him. The veteran righty has been consistently good since he cracked into the big leagues again last season. He holds a 3.33 ERA in five starts and 27 innings this season. Fedde had a solid start against the Braves this week. The Braves could ship off one or two top-15 prospects to bring Fedde in for the postseason push.”

Fedde signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Chicago White Sox last offseason before he was dealt to the Cardinals. He had a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts before being traded. He had a 3.72 ERA in 10 starts with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are headed for a rebuild, and trading a starter on an expiring contract for prospects would be wise. Meanwhile, the Braves would get an arm in their rotation, hopefully in time to make a postseason push.

Ronald Acuña Jr. should return soon, so the offense should be getting a huge boost. However, they will need to patch the rotation if they want a real chance at salvaging the season. Strider should return soon, but that does not change the fact that the Braves need reliable arms.
