Bills have to hope they go far into the playoffs to keep coaching continuity..ANHTRUC.

When Sean McDermott was hired by the Buffalo Bills, no one knew how it would pan out. Coming off of the Rex Ryan era that was a mess, McDermott had a little bit to clean up. The great news is that he did very fast by getting the Bills to the playoffs in 2017. They overachieved on a year that was supposed to be a rebuild.

It also helps that in 2018, he and Brandon Beane managed to trade up to acquire Josh Allen who would become the franchise guy to this day. However, we have seen that in order for a quarterback to be great, they need a solid offensive coordinator. From 2018-2021, Allen had Giants head coach Brian Daboll as his coordinator and he deserves a lot of credit for Allen’s growth.

Daboll helped Allen become a top-three quarterback in 2020 and he hasn’t looked back since. After an ultimate 13 second collapse against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 playoffs, the Bills lost Daboll to the Giants so they needed to find someone who could take over the offense that Daboll built.

Hired within the organization, Ken Dorsey was promoted to offensive coordinator. He was Allen’s QB coach so it only made sense to promote him. Unfortunately, his tenure in Buffalo as the offensive coordinator was short-lived, last only a season and a half before being fired in the middle of the 2023 season. From there on, enter Joe Brady who brought a lot of life to this Bills offense.

New York Jets v Buffalo Bills

Since taking over as the offensive coordinator, the Bills have been averaging over 30 points per game and has done so much with limited talent. He has implemented an “everybody eats” mentality to the point where we see Mack Hollins sometimes being the number one target at times. Under Brady, there isn’t a number one option. Everyone is involved somehow.

Bills need to hope that Joe Brady stays for 2025

Joe Brady has been requested to interview for two head coach openings; the New York Jets (per Ian Rapoport) and New Orleans Saints (per Dianna Russini).

Brady did interview for the Falcons’ head coaching job last season, but there was no true sign of him leaving Buffalo for them. However, with the work that Brady has done for the Bills this season, it would not be surprising to see Brady leave Buffalo for the right opportunity.

The advantages for the requests being for the Jets and Saints is that both teams don’t have great quarterback situations at all. That might mean a lot for a possible new head coach. Maybe Brady stays back for one more season, maybe he doesn’t. However, keeping Brady to keep the continuity among the coaching staff is important for the Bills to be as successful as this season.
