The feel-good story of Buffalo Bills mailman Roderick “Slick Rick” Morrow continues!
Last Thursday, Morrow received an unexpected shoutout from Bills quarterback Josh Allen during Allen’s MVP award acceptance speech. Just over a week later, ABC affiliate WKBW-TV in Buffalo reported that local car dealership West Herr Auto Group gifted the Bills’ mailman a new car.
Earlier this week, Morrow became something of an internet celebrity for his wholesome, tearful reaction to Allen’s shoutout in his speech.
“It takes everybody,” Allen said after receiving the MVP award. “From the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff to ‘Slick Rick’ in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs. It truly takes everybody to have team success.”
Morrow told WKBW on Tuesday that he was not at all expecting the initial shoutout from Allen.
“I was happy that [Allen] had won it, and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name, I just broke down,” he said. “I’m just an average person, but when he mentioned my name it was like, ‘Oh my God, he just mentioned my name on national television!'”
Morrow said the aftermath of the shoutout was almost immediate. He started getting calls from friends about the shoutout and was crying on the phone to them as well.
“It’s still like a dream.”
On Friday, West Herr presented Morrow with a brand-new Chevy Traverse after hearing that he previously took the bus to work everyday for 15 years.
Morrow was still in disbelief about the generosity and love he received from the Buffalo community after receiving the car.
“Why me?” he said in a Friday interview with WKBW. “It’s unbelievable. This is unbelievable.
“Thank you. I thank everybody. I’m just an average guy.”
