The Philadelphia Phillies are actively working on a contract extension for standout designated hitter this offseason. He has been a key power bat for the Phillies, and the team is looking to secure his future in Philadelphia beyond his current deal.
Phillies could lock down Kyle Schwarber for 3 more years
According to CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa, citing a report from The Athletic, both the Phillies and Kyle Schwarber are interested in extending their partnership beyond the 2025 season.
“The Phillies and Schwarber have engaged in general extension discussions this spring, per The Athletic, though no agreement is imminent. The slugger, set to become a free agent after this season, has expressed his desire to stay in Philadelphia long-term. He is set to earn $20 million in the final year of the four-year, $79 million contract he signed in March 2022,” Axisa reported.
“An extension could potentially pay him around $20 million annually for another two to three years.”
Schwarber gives the Phillies an elite bat at DH
Few sluggers have been as dominant as Kyle Schwarber in recent years. The 31-year-old ranked sixth in MLB with 38 home runs in 2024, following back-to-back seasons where he finished second with 47 in 2023 and 46 in 2022.
Since his arrival, Philadelphia has thrived in the regular season and reached the playoffs each year, including a World Series appearance in 2022, an NLCS run in 2023, and an NLDS finish in 2022.
Securing Schwarber long-term would help the Phillies stay competitive and avoid slipping further from championship contention. Given his consistent power production, a contract extension at the projected annual value would be a worthwhile investment, especially alongside elite hitters like Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Nick Castellanos.
