A familiar face could be an option for the Detroit Lions as they attempt to fix their issues at cornerback this offseason.

The team could have a major need at the position as Carlton Davis heads for free agency.

If he leaves, the team could have to lean heavily on the two corners they drafted last season.

However, it seems a player they drafted more than 10 years ago is open to helping them solve that problem.

Philadelphia Eagles corner Darius Slay is seen as a potential cut candidate this offseason as he heads into the final year of a $42 million contract.

If that were to happen, it seems the Lions would be his top choice for his next team.

During a February 19 appearance on “The St. Brown Podcast”, Slay said that the definitely wants to play one more season in the NFL and wants it to either be with the Eagles or Lions.

Slay said, “For sure the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit.”

Slay had a great run with the Lions after they drafted him 36th overall back in 2013.

Over seven seasons with the team, he earned a spot in the Pro Bowl three times and an All-Pro nod. He also tied for the league lead i interceptions once.

During that time he racked up 104 passes broken up, 19 interceptions, and 347 total tackles.

He’s spent the last five seasons with the Eagles and was a solid piece of their championship roster this past season.

In his 12th NFL season, Slay held opposing quarterbacks to a 54.7% completion percentage and 6.1 yards per pass attempt when they threw in his direction.

At 34 years old, there will certainly be concerns that Slay is heading for a decline, but he could be a solid piece for a Lions cornerback room that has some big question marks right now.

They would still need to make a bigger move at the position if they want to take their defense to the next level, but a six-time Pro Bowler who is coming off of contributing to a Super Bowl-winning team seems like a good fit for the Lions.
