After getting his record deal, Prescott’s statistics regressed, he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury and the Cowboys are in the same boat with the Niners sailing toward missing the playoffs…bb

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell agrees, predicting Purdy becomes the NFL’s first $65 million player…bb

“If the 49ers pay the going rate for a franchise quarterback next year, they’re topping the deal Dak Prescott just inked with the Cowboys, which is north of $60 million per season,” Barnwell wrote. “I suggested over the summer a Purdy deal would come in at five years and $325 million, or $65 million per year. That’s still the number he and his agents are likely targeting.”..bb

As was the case in Dallas, the debate will intensify over whether Purdy “deserves” that kind of money and whether he is, in fact, “elite.”..bb

Last year Purdy led the NFL in passer rating and finished fourth in MVP voting. In part because of numerous injuries to weapons such as Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey, his production has significantly decreased in 2024. He has thrown only 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions while posting a 94.3 passer rating…bb

Critics are accusing him of merely being a “game manager” who feasts off of Kyle Shanahan’s system and surrounding talent of stars at every skill position…bb

In a new report, The Athletic writes that Purdy’s poor performance in the rain against the Rams may be causing pause in the Niners’ enthusiasm toward locking him up with a mega-deal…bb

“The new contract for Purdy [in the offseason] was a slam dunk for me until Thursday night,” one NFL executive told The Athletic. “What I saw was a guy who was so limited physically that, I’m not saying I don’t want him, it’s just the first time I’ve said, ‘Hmmm, he can’t make those throws.'”..bb
