49ers Make Bold Moves with 11 Futures Contracts for 2025 Season
In a decisive move to strengthen their roster for the 2025 season, the San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of 11 players to futures contracts on Monday. These deals, essentially camp invites, offer players the chance to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
The full list of signees includes:
- DL Jonathan Garvin
- OL Sebastian Gutierrez
- DL Tarron Jackson
- OL Zack Johnson
- CB Chase Lucas
- S Jaylen Mahoney
- QB Tanner Mordecai
- OL Drake Nugent
- WR Terique Owens
- TE Mason Pline
- WR Trent Taylor
One name that stands out is wide receiver Trent Taylor. A former fifth-round pick by the 49ers in 2017, Taylor has had a winding career path. After signing a four-year, $2.31 million contract, he made base salaries of $645,000 and $735,000 in the final years of his deal. Testing the market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time, Taylor signed a one-year deal with the Bengals in May but was cut and re-signed to their practice squad.
Taylor’s journey continued with a futures deal for the 2022 season with the Bengals, followed by a one-year contract in 2023, only to be released after the preseason. He joined the Bears to finish out the season before the 49ers brought him back in April 2024 and added him to their practice squad.
In 2024, Taylor appeared in two games for the 49ers, catching one pass for 11 yards. Now, he gets another shot to prove himself with a futures contract for the upcoming season.
The futures deals offer these players an opportunity to earn a spot on the team through hard work and determination. With the offseason workouts and training camp ahead, the 49ers are setting the stage for a competitive and exciting 2025 season. Will these new additions make a significant impact? Only time will tell.
