Boston Celtics Continue to Make NBA History
Boston had come close to breaking the record last season, finishing with 1,351 threes in 2023–24 — now the third-most all-time. The 2018–19 Houston Rockets (1,323) and the 2022–23 Celtics (1,315) round out the top five.
Notably, all three Boston teams on that list have been coached by Joe Mazzulla, who has leaned heavily into a high-volume perimeter attack throughout his tenure.
Boston Celtics Lead in Shooting By Wide Margin
This season, the Celtics lead the NBA with 48.4 three-point attempts per game. The gap between Boston and second-place Golden State (42.5) is the same as the difference between the Warriors and the league’s 18th-ranked team in attempts, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Boston’s entire starting five has attempted at least five threes per game this season, while bench contributors Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser combine for 13.4 attempts per night. The strategy has paid off: the Celtics own the NBA’s No. 2 offensive rating (119.6), per NBA.com, as they look to defend their 2024 championship.
With five games remaining in the regular season, Boston is expected to continue building on its newly established record.
