Bronny James has split his time throughout his rookie season between the Los Angeles Lakers and their G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. He’s played sparingly with the Lakers, appearing in 19 games in the NBA. James is averaging 1.6 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game in 4.8 minutes per game.

James has spent nearly as much time in the G League, playing in 16 games this season. In those 16 games (seven Tip-Off Tournament and nine regular season), James is averaging 17.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

Friday night, James was kept on the NBA roster, playing a season-high 16 minutes against the Denver Nuggets. With James’ most recent appearance in the G League coming on Monday, March 10, it begs the question when James is informed by the Lakers whether he’ll be part of the NBA or G-League roster. One reporter asked James that very question following the Lakers 131-126 loss to the Nuggets.

“Yeah, I’m playing it by ear. I don’t really know until 24 or less hours beforehand, so again, always staying ready for whatever comes at me and just going out and playing hard. Just staying ready and the most important is having the same mindset of being aggressive and being a great teammate and making the right play and stuff like that. I think that’s just going to be good for me down the road,” James said.

The (South Bay) Lakers next game is Saturday, March 15 at 5 p.m. EST when they take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The (Los Angeles) Lakers next game is Sunday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. EST against the Phoenix Suns.

Time will tell which roster, or rosters, James will be on over the weekend, but given the NBA Lakers’ current injury woes, it’s likely JJ Redick will keep James with the parent club.
