BREAKING: Buffalo Bills $21 million free agent predicted to leave for Detroit Lions.THANHDUNG

Veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas has roamed the boundary for the past season-plus with the Buffalo Bills, but his time there could be coming to an end.

Despite having a massive need on the outside opposite Christian Benford, the Bills have not re-signed Douglas and he remains available on the open market. At this point, it looks like Douglas will be playing elsewhere in 2025.

Buffalo Bills $21 million free agent predicted to leave for Detroit Lions

In a recent article projecting landing spots for some of the top remaining free agents Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks Douglas could find a new home with the Detroit Lions.

“The Detroit Lions should also give Douglas a look. Detroit has added the likes of D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin to its cornerback room this offseason, but it lost Carlton Davis and dealt with defensive depth issues a season ago,” Knox wrote.

After impressing in his first half of a season with the Bills in 2023, Douglas had a bad showing in 2024, as he gave up a completion rate of 72.9% and a passer rating of 122 when targeted.

The Lions lost a key member of their secondary to the New England Patriots in free agency, with Carlton Davis bolting Detroit after just one season. However, the team replaced Davis with veteran cornerback D.J. Reed in what was a strong move by general manager Brad Holmes.

The Lions still needed to add more veteran depth after signing Reed, and they have since done that by adding Avonte Maddox and Rock Ya-Sin. Those two moves will likely take Detroit out of the cornerback market for good this offseason.

Despite his lackluster performance in 2024, the Bills may still want Douglas back. After all, the addition of Dane Jackson did not shore up Buffalo’s issue on the boundary.

Unfortunately, signing just about anyone will be difficult for Buffalo, a team that sports just $2.2 million in cap space, per Over the Cap. Spotrac has a lofty three-year, $35.7 million projection for Douglas, but we don’t think he’ll cost that, especially at this late stage in free agency.
