Dallas Cowboys standout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will need to come up with a new trademark celebration. The NFL has introduced some minor rule modifications for the 2025 season, with one particular change sparking reactions on social media.
The league will now classify the “wipe your nose” celebration as a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty due to it being considered a “violent gesture.” Lamb, who is known for using this celebration after significant plays, has led to the rule being humorously dubbed the “Ceedee Lamb Rule.”
Naturally, Lamb responded to the rule change on social media. “[SMH], I have plenty in mind,” Lamb posted on X. Although the rule seems absurd at first glance, the “wipe your nose” gesture is linked to “the act of aggressively confronting opponents.”
According to Urban Dictionary, “The index finger moves horizontally beneath the nose toward the opponents and concludes with a thumbs-down motion. This gesture signals to your team that you’re ready for a fierce competition and aims to intimidate the opposition.”
There are far more pressing matters the NFL should focus on, but for now, players should ensure they avoid catching a cold. Last season, Lamb tallied 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns, earning his fourth Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro recognition.
We’ll have to wait and see how he modifies his celebration routine for 2025.
