Chiefs Predicted to Lose Top Free Agent After Super Bowl Loss - Athlon Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a brutal loss to end the NFL season, falling at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Philadelphia defeated Kansas City 40-22, spoiling the Chiefs’ chances of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

As the Chiefs work their way back to Super Bowl contention, they’ll be dealing with a couple of major free agent decisions.

The biggest name on the Chiefs’ free agent list is offensive guard Trey Smith, who has been in Kansas City for the past four seasons. He was originally drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Smith is headed into free agency for the first time in his career during the 2025 offseason.

According to Kristopher Knox at Bleacher Report, Smith is predicted to leave Kansas City and sign with the Chicago Bears in the offseason.

Knox explained that Smith is projected to receive a lucrative deal, given his elite play during the 2024 season. Smith didn’t allow a single sack and made his presence felt in the run game, blocking for Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco.

According to Spotrac, the Bears have the sixth-highest salary cap in the NFL, heading into the offseason with $64.8 million in cap space, so the addition of Smith is certainly viable.

The loss of Smith would be a major blow for the Chiefs, following a Super Bowl performance where Kansas City mightily struggled on the offensive end.

The Chiefs finished their blowout loss to the Eagles with 275 total yards and 12 first downs while giving up six sacks on quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
