The Dallas Cowboys have made good on their promise to explore every avenue to enhance their wide receiver lineup. On Wednesday morning, reports surfaced that they acquired George Pickens through a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Even before this news broke, fans were already buzzing with speculation due to a cryptic tweet from CeeDee Lamb, the team’s leading wide receiver, late Tuesday night. This tweet led many to believe he was hinting at the arrival of a new teammate.
Last season, Lamb shouldered a significant amount of responsibility in Dallas. Although he is more than capable, the offensive unit struggled to gain yardage when he wasn’t the central focus. The Cowboys aim to ease this burden with the addition of Tyler Booker on the offensive line and a revamped group of running backs.
However, nothing will likely assist more than acquiring another receiver who can accumulate 1,000-yard seasons. Pickens, a second-round draft choice from Georgia in 2022, has amassed 174 catches for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns over three seasons.
He has never played with a quarterback of Dak Prescott’s caliber or had a fellow receiver like Lamb to divert defensive attention. With the Steelers preparing to start either Mason Rudolph or Will Howard, this trade seems to benefit both Pickens and the Cowboys.
