The Los Angeles Dodgers are among a handful of teams with double-digit win totals as they look for a repeat World Series championship.

But there’s reason to believe they could use some extra offense.

The Dodgers are sitting in the middle of the pack among Major League Baseball teams in total hits, batting average and on-base percentage. And the team was unable to post a single run in a 16-0 route against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

But the defending champs have been looking to boost their offense in blockbuster fashion, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today negotiating a deal that would have brought in one of the most coveted young sluggers on the trade block before hitting the pause button.

“The Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have tabled trade discussions that would send center fielder Luis Robert Jr. to the Dodgers for Triple-A outfielder James Outman and a front-line prospect,” Nightengale reported.

As the White Sox embark on a multiyear rebuild, Robert has emerged as one of the most likely trade candidates of the season. He’s a former Gold Glove Award winner, former Silver Slugger Award winner and a former All-Star at just 27 years old.

After signing a six-year, $50 million deal with the White Sox in 2020, Robert is owed $15 million this season with two $20 million club options for 2026 and 2027. He slugged 38 homers in 2023, but injury led to a significant dip in production for 2024.

Meanwhile, Outman posted a -0.4 WAR in 2024 and has spent his 2025 campaign in Triple-A. Dealing for Robert could give the Dodgers a big-league option in the outfield while allowing the White Sox to reset around some more controllable talent.

Though the deal has been paused for now, the teams could revisit it, particularly if Robert looks to be a real answer for some extra offense with the Dodgers.
