NFL fans across the country are calling for the league to take strong action after former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was allegedly caught using a homophobic slur during a controversial podcast appearance that aired earlier this week.
The incident, which immediately went viral on social media, has ignited intense backlash from fans, LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, and former players, many of whom are demanding that the NFL formally distance itself from the four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion.
In the now-deleted episode of the podcast “Fourth Down Unfiltered,” Rodgers was discussing changes in NFL locker room culture when he allegedly made a comment many deemed discriminatory and deeply offensive.
While Rodgers has yet to issue a formal apology, his team released a brief statement:
“Aaron is aware of the concerns raised by comments made during the podcast and is currently reflecting on the impact of his words.”
The NFL responded within hours, stating:
“The league does not tolerate language or behavior that is discriminatory or harmful. While Mr. Rodgers is not currently an active player, we are reviewing the matter closely.”
The fallout has been swift. Fans at Lambeau Field left protest signs at the gates, and a trending hashtag—#RodgersOutOfNFL—has gained traction on X (formerly Twitter). Several sponsors are reportedly reconsidering partnerships with the retired quarterback.
Former NFL safety Ryan Clark spoke out during a live segment on ESPN:
“When you’re a face of the league—even in retirement—you carry responsibility. Comments like that can’t be ignored.”
As of now, Rodgers has not made any public appearance since the story broke. Rumors are swirling that he may soon appear on national television to address the controversy.
