The Detroit Lions have lost a lot of coaches on the offensive side of the ball in the last few weeks. One of the big losses they’ve had to endure was the loss of tight ends coach Steve Heiden. He joined Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets as their offensive line coach last week.

The Lions have been on the lookout for a new tight ends coach and one of the guys they were interested in was Jaguars tight end coach Richard Angulo. The Lions reached out to inquire, but the Jags have taken some measures to make sure they’re not going to lose him.

The search for the Lions’ new tight ends coach will continue. We have three guys that the Lions could attempt to hire for this role. All three of them have connections to the Lions.

Iowa tight ends coach Abdul Hodge
Why not grab a guy from the tight end factory that is Iowa? Hodge was Sam LaPorta’s tight ends coach at Iowa and helped him get ready to be the Lions’ second-round pick in 2023. He has also gotten Luke Lachey ready to go in this year’s draft. There is no team that better understands how to utilize tight ends than the Hawkeyes.

Tulane offensive line coach Dan Roushar
Roushar was with Dan Campbell in New Orleans and he’s actually the guy that Campbell replaced as the tight ends coach there. Roushar is also the guy who replaced Dan Campbell after he left.

While on the older side of things, Roushar is a guy who has a history of not only coaching tight ends but also coaching offensive lines, running backs coach and being a run game coordinator. He did it all in New Orleans and has a good idea of where both Campbell and new offensive coordinator John Morton, who he also worked with in New Orleans, is looking for.

Broncos assistant offensive line coach Austin King
King was not only just in Denver with Morton, but he was also on staff with Morton in Las Vegas when he was the Raiders’ senior offensive assistant. King was the tight ends coach and a quality control coach at that time.
