The Kansas City Chiefs are securing experienced talent to help solidify their defense with the free-agent signing of cornerback Kristian Fulton.
Fulton joins a Chiefs defense that has improved significantly over the past few seasons under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. He discussed his fit into the unit during Thursday’s introductory press conference with reporters on Zoom.
“I think what stands out to me, obviously, within the past few years – well, obviously being a defensive guy, I know defense wins championships even though it’s a great offense as well. Like I said, you don’t get to this level in the NFL without having a great defense, and the past few years, it’s been put on display,” said Fulton. “Obviously, being a corner, I like to watch other corners in this league, and the past few years, they’ve had some of the top guys in the league with their play and then their scheme, so I feel like it was a great fit for me to be put in this position – myself in this position.”
The former 2020 second-round NFL Draft pick was Second-team All-SEC during his college career at LSU. The front office showed interest in him early in his career, so he formally met with Kansas City during that year’s NFL Combine.
Fulton started 15 games over the 2024 regular season and postseason with the Los Angeles Chargers, finishing the year with 51 tackles and an interception. He will be part of a secondary that includes All-Pro Trent McDuffie and emerging cornerback Jaylen Watson.
