Lamar Jackson did not beat around the bush when reporters asked why he was pulling up his tights in the middle of a play.
With under 1:30 remaining in the second quarter of the Baltimore Ravens’ 35-14 win over the New York Giants, Jackson was rushed by the defense, forcing him to scramble out of the pocket. The star quarterback escaped the defense, and as he jogged toward the first down marker, Jackson began reaching down to his tights.

Gripping his pants tight, Jackson made it past the first down marker, and at one point, even juked out a Giants defender. He eventually was brought down but not before his impressive move went viral on social media, based solely on the absurdity of the entire play, especially Jackson being able to evade defenders with loose tights.
After the game, Jackson was asked by reporters about the play, and the 27-year-old left very little to the imagination as to why he was gripping his tights. “Alright, so look. They was asking me that,” Jackson began.
“So I’m like, I felt like wind was touching my butt. You know, so I was trying to keep my tights up for real. I feel like the tights just like got a little loose or something. I don’t know. So I was like just trying to keep my pants up. But that’s all it was. It was too cold out there.”
Still, it appeared as if Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction did little to stop him from succeeding against the Giants. Jackson completed 21-of-25 pass attempts for 290 yards to go along with five touchdowns and rushed for 65 yards on six carries, including his run with his tights falling.
Jackson also became the second quarterback to surpass 6,000 career rushing yards, joining Michael Vick as the only signal-callers in NFL history to have over 6,000 rushing yards. The Ravens star is just 108 rushing yards behind Vick and 109 yards away from surpassing him for most all-time.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was very impressed by what he saw from Jackson against the reeling Giants, who have lost a record-tying ninth straight game. Speaking to reporters, Harbaugh heaped praise on his star’s outing and his overall impressive game against New York.
“All around he had a great game,” Harbaugh said after the win, inching Baltimore closer a playoff berth, per ESPN. “He’s been locked in all season, all week. He’s on the guys in meetings, walk-throughs, everything. He’s keeping it about football and getting the football right.”
Along with Harbaugh, linebacker Roquan Smith believed Jackson’s play helped elevate the team as a whole because of how much pressure the 27-year-old puts on opposing defenses every night. “It’s kind of crazy how he can get through his reads, make his line better, it’s everything,” Smith said. “What the guy is doing is truly special.”
Despite his incredible performance against the Giants, Jackson admitted his outing was attributed to him being frustrated with how he started the game. “I stated out slow with that turnover. I was hot about that,” he said, per ESPN. “I was ticked off. I just had to lock in and play Ravens football and that’s what we did.”
