BREAKING: Miami Dolphins nearly reach contract deal with former Oregon Ducks 10,000-yard star in stunning NFL free agency. nhathung

What lies ahead for the Miami Dolphins? The team hasn’t secured a playoff victory since 2000, and the current roster under Mike McDaniel has struggled to surpass hurdles. The inventive offense has occasionally delivered impressive statistics, but it tends to falter against stronger defenses.

Report: Marcus Mariota agrees to deal with Washington Commanders

The health of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been a significant concern, as his multiple concussions have cast doubt on his long-term viability, raising questions about his ability to play most of the season. Instead of ignoring his accumulating injuries, the organization must find a practical and temporary backup option.

Relying on Skylar Thompson and Snoop Huntley for relief won’t suffice, and with the free agency period approaching, Chris Grier will have plenty of options to select an ideal backup quarterback. CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan suggests that Marcus Mariota could be an excellent choice. “The team shouldn’t overlook the backup quarterback role, given Tua Tagovailoa’s history of head injuries,” Sullivan asserted.

“Tagovailoa suffered another concussion last season, revealing the team’s inadequate backup plan. This should motivate the front office to strengthen the backup position, and Marcus Mariota seems like a logical fit. The 31-year-old has 74 career starts and can potentially keep the team competitive when needed.” Mariota’s tenure in Atlanta was inconsistent, but he experienced a resurgence while mentoring Jayden Daniels in the capital.

In the couple of games where he was called into action, Mariota excelled, displaying improved accuracy and agility reminiscent of his earlier years. Both Mariota and Tagovailoa attended the same high school, with Tagovailoa expressing admiration for the former Heisman Trophy winner from Oregon. Despite their differing playstyles, it’s crucial for the club to focus on acquiring one of the top seasoned players available.
