San Francisco 49ers talented linebacker Dre Greenlaw suffered an Achilles tear during their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Greenlaw wasn’t ready for the start of 2024, and the 49ers placed him on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list at the roster cutdown deadline. Since then, he missed their first 12 weeks and 11 games.
He is nine months removed from the injury and is inching closer to a return.
The San Francisco 49ers plan to open his practice window this week

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the expectation is for the 49ers to designate Dre Greenlaw for a return from the PUP list this week and open his practice window in the process. As Rapoport points out, Greenlaw could return to practice this week. Wednesday would be the first time since February (pre-injury) he practices.
Some fans don’t like the idea of him returning

Some San Francisco 49ers fans are upset that Dre Greenlaw will return to practice because of their low chances of making the playoffs. The 5-6 49ers sit in last place in the NFC West division standings and 11th in the NFC Playoff Picture. Although it’s possible, Next Gen Stats gives them a 15% of making the playoffs.
Finally, and most importantly, fans are worried about Greenlaw getting injured.
