Mayor Eric Adams’ fashion sense struck out once more. On Thursday, in celebration of Major League Baseball’s opening day, he donned a controversial cap featuring the logos of both the Mets and the Yankees.
This isn’t the first time Hizzoner has ruffled feathers among fans of both teams with his attempt at neutrality. Posting a picture of himself in the dual-logo hat, Adams declared his excitement for the season’s start in New York City.
He encouraged, “Let’s bring home a championship!” seemingly unaware that only one team can secure the title. Back in October, Adams faced a backlash from baseball enthusiasts for the same cap, seen by some as a weak attempt to appease both sides in the heated rivalry between the teams.
A fervent Yankees supporter even suggested the hat should be “outlawed.” On Thursday, the criticism continued, with fans again deriding the hat as a fashion faux pas that satisfies no one. One fan remarked, “You should be jailed just for this,” hinting at the corruption charges against the Mayor, which might soon be dismissed.
Meanwhile, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is challenging Adams in the mayoral race, was seen at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, mingling in a suit sans team apparel.
