BREAKING NEWS: Freddie Freeman Donates $3.3 Million to Turn Family Property into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Fountain Valley, California
Fountain Valley, CA – May 7, 2025 — In a remarkable act of generosity and compassion, Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has donated $3.3 million to convert his family-owned property in Fountain Valley into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The shelter, which will be named “The Freeman House”, aims to provide safe housing, education, mental health support, and career training for vulnerable young people in Southern California. The facility is expected to open in early 2026 and will accommodate up to 50 residents at a time, offering both emergency shelter and long-term transitional housing.
Freeman, a five-time MLB All-Star and former National League MVP, said in a statement:
“This is more than a donation — it’s a commitment to kids who deserve a second chance. Fountain Valley is part of my roots, and I want to give back to the community that helped shape my family.”
The property, which has been in the Freeman family for decades, will be completely renovated to include dorm-style living quarters, counseling rooms, a communal kitchen, study areas, and recreational spaces. The project will be managed in partnership with Youth Horizons Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting at-risk youth across California.
Local officials and community leaders have praised Freeman’s decision, calling it “a game-changer” for the city and surrounding areas.
Mayor Patrick Harper of Fountain Valley said:
“Freddie Freeman is not only a hero on the field, but off the field as well. His generosity will leave a lasting legacy for generations of youth.”
Freeman, who has long been active in charitable causes, hinted that this may be the beginning of a broader initiative to fight youth homelessness across the state.
Construction on The Freeman House is set to begin this summer.
