BREAKING NEWS: Joey Logano announces his refusal to celebrate Pride Month in June — he says “WOKE” doesn’t deserve to be celebrated, quotes… – SSS

In a stunning and polarizing statement that has already sent shockwaves through the NASCAR community and beyond, two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano has publicly declared that he refuses to participate in any Pride Month celebrations, calling the movement part of what he refers to as “the woke agenda.”

Speaking during a post-race media session late Sunday evening, Logano was asked whether he and his team had any plans to display a Pride-themed livery or social media message, as other NASCAR drivers and teams have done in recent years.

His response caught many off guard.

“I’m not going to pretend to support something just because it’s popular or politically correct,” Logano said firmly. “I believe in traditional values, and to me, this whole ‘woke’ thing doesn’t deserve to be celebrated. Pride Month isn’t about inclusion anymore—it’s about forcing an agenda.”

Logano continued, stating that he respects everyone’s right to live how they choose, but he won’t compromise his beliefs for public approval.

“It’s not hate. It’s honesty,” he said. “I don’t judge people, but I also won’t be pressured into celebrating something I don’t believe in.”

NASCAR Responds

NASCAR has yet to issue an official statement, but sources inside the organization say executives were caught off guard by Logano’s comments. While the league has made visible strides toward promoting inclusivity—especially since 2020—it has also faced pushback from certain segments of its fanbase over those very efforts.

Over the past three years, NASCAR has supported Pride Month with themed social posts, rainbow decals, and driver messages of inclusion. Some drivers—most notably Bubba Wallace—have voiced strong support for LGBTQ+ fans and team members.

Whether Logano’s statements will lead to disciplinary action or public rebuttal from the league remains to be seen.

Fan Reactions Split

As expected, the backlash and support came swiftly on social media. On X (formerly Twitter), the hashtag #BoycottLogano began trending by midday Monday, alongside #StandWithLogano, revealing how sharply divided public opinion has become.

One user wrote:

“Joey Logano is a NASCAR champion, not a moral authority. His words were disappointing and harmful to fans who just want to feel welcome.”

Others applauded him for “standing up for what he believes in,” with comments like:

“Finally, someone in sports who refuses to bend the knee to the woke mob. Good for Joey.”

The comment sections on Logano’s own social media profiles have been flooded with both praise and criticism, with many calling on sponsors and NASCAR itself to address the situation.

Sponsors Caught in the Middle

Logano’s primary sponsors—Shell/Pennzoil, Ford, and Autotrader—have all previously expressed support for LGBTQ+ rights and diversity initiatives. None had issued public responses as of Monday afternoon, but corporate insiders say there are “ongoing internal discussions” about how to proceed.

One marketing executive who requested anonymity noted:

“It puts the brands in a tough spot. On one hand, you want to respect your athlete’s right to personal expression. On the other, you have brand values and public perception to consider.”

Depending on how the controversy evolves, sponsorship relationships could be at risk if Logano refuses to walk back or clarify his remarks.

Teammates and Fellow Drivers React

Logano, who drives for Team Penske, has yet to receive public support—or criticism—from fellow drivers. However, sources within the paddock suggest tension may be growing behind the scenes.

A crew member from another Cup Series team, speaking on background, said:

“People have different beliefs, and that’s fine. But when those beliefs start marginalizing fans or teammates, it becomes a problem.”

One driver, speaking anonymously, said:

“I don’t agree with Joey, but I also understand he’s speaking from his worldview. I just wish drivers would focus on unity more than division.”

A Broader Culture War in Sports?

Logano’s comments arrive amid a growing trend of athletes pushing back against what they perceive as “political correctness” in sports. From NHL players refusing to wear Pride-themed jerseys to NFL figures speaking out on social issues, sports have increasingly become a flashpoint in America’s culture wars.

Some argue that athletes have a platform—and a responsibility—to support inclusive messages. Others believe they should not be forced into any kind of performative activism.

Dr. Lila Santos, a professor of cultural studies and media ethics, explains:

“What we’re witnessing isn’t just a PR controversy—it’s a deeper identity crisis. Sports have always reflected societal values. Now, we’re seeing a clash between traditionalist identities and emerging norms of inclusion and representation.”

What’s Next for Logano?

As of now, Joey Logano remains firm in his stance. He has not issued a follow-up or apology. His PR team has not responded to media inquiries.

Whether NASCAR or sponsors choose to respond with statements or action, this moment marks a significant juncture for Logano’s public image—and perhaps for the sport as a whole.

The coming days may determine whether Logano’s remarks are remembered as a bold stand or a divisive misstep.
