BREAKING NEWS: Justin Fields will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers only if he gets this guarantee.THANHDUNG

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has not yet signed a new deal with the team. Why has that yet to materialize?

Aditi Kinkhabwala revealed the snag in the Steelers and Fields extension talks, and the reason might simply be due to distrust that he will get the starting job. Fields started for six games for the Steelers before they turned to Russell Wilson, and Fields did not make another start for the rest of the season.

Kinkhabwala does believe Fields’ best fit is with the Steelers.

“If Justin Fields wants to affirm he is indeed a starter in this league (and a starter to stay), his best path is to sign with the #Steelers,” Kinkhabwala wrote on X. “He is familiar with the offense, he has an offensive staff that absolutely believes in him and he freely told our @NFLonCBS crew how the ‘”contagious” confidence in the building is just part of why he felt a different comfort in PIT.”

Yet, that all means nothing if Fields does not get on the field to show teams that he has progressed as a player.

“The impediments, as I am told them? 1) There IS a market for him and he could chase money. 2) He has to get past any sting/distrust from this season, when there was player/assistant sentiment in the building that he return to the starting spot, but Mike Tomlin chose not to do so,” Kinkhabwala wrote.

Former NFL agent Joel Corry revealed that Fields would certainly get somewhere over $10 million, but would not break the bank like some are specualting.

Fields seems to be the Steelers’ Plan A as it stands. If the Steelers end up landing Fields on a new deal, it should come in around where Corry is protecting, but to have him sign before Monday, they may have to overpay him.
