BREAKING NEWS: Legendary Chicago Cubs player Fergie Jenkins will join other greats in an upcoming holiday movie on the Hallmark Channel.

Fergie Jenkins to Star in Hallmark Holiday Film, Joining Baseball Legends in Festive Feature

Chicago, May 23, 2025 — Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins, a name synonymous with Chicago Cubs greatness, is set to trade the pitcher’s mound for the movie set in a surprising and heartwarming move. The legendary right-hander will appear in an upcoming Hallmark Channel holiday movie, joining a cast that includes other beloved Major League Baseball icons in a film that blends America’s pastime with the magic of the holiday season.

A Curveball Cameo Turned Starring Role

The film, titled “Home for the Holidays: A Baseball Christmas”, tells the story of a small-town youth baseball coach struggling to save the local field during a harsh winter — until help comes from a few unexpected visitors: retired baseball greats who return to inspire the town. Jenkins, known for his dominant pitching in the 1960s and 70s, will play a wise and generous mentor who helps bring the community — and the team — back together.

Originally approached for a brief cameo, Jenkins reportedly impressed producers with his natural on-camera presence and ended up with a much larger role.

“He brought the same quiet confidence and heart to the screen that he brought to Wrigley Field,” said director Melissa Vaughn. “Fergie isn’t just a baseball legend — he’s a natural storyteller, and that shines in this movie.”

Hallmark Meets the Hall of Fame

Jenkins isn’t the only Hall of Famer getting into the holiday spirit. The film’s cast also includes former Yankees captain Derek Jeter, Red Sox legend David Ortiz, and Dodgers great Orel Hershiser — all playing fictionalized versions of themselves. Together, they form a group of former teammates who reunite for a holiday mission: to restore joy to a struggling baseball town and remind everyone that the game — and the holidays — are about more than just winning.

This marks the Hallmark Channel’s first collaboration with the Baseball Hall of Fame, and according to insiders, it may not be the last.

“We wanted to do something different this year,” said Hallmark executive Lisa Cantrell. “Baseball has a special place in American hearts, just like our holiday movies. Bringing these legends together for a story about giving, community, and redemption felt like a perfect fit.”

Jenkins: “It’s About Heart”

Fergie Jenkins, now 82, says he was drawn to the project because of its message — and because it gave him a chance to reach a new generation.

“I’ve always believed the game is bigger than statistics,” Jenkins said in a press release. “It’s about heart, teamwork, and making a difference. That’s what this film is about, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Jenkins, who was the first Canadian inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, remains an active figure in both baseball and philanthropy. He runs the Fergie Jenkins Foundation, which supports charities in the U.S. and Canada, and he frequently participates in Cubs alumni events and youth baseball clinics.

Cubs Fans React with Joy

News of Jenkins’ holiday film debut has delighted Cubs Nation. Social media lit up with nostalgic messages from fans who fondly remember his pitching dominance and quiet leadership. Many are eager to see their childhood hero in a new role — especially one that showcases his character both on and off the field.

“Fergie could do no wrong as a Cub,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Now he’s saving Christmas? Give him another statue.”

Wrigley Field is even planning a special screening of the movie for fans this December, complete with a meet-and-greet and holiday festivities.

From Mound to Movie Magic

While Jenkins never imagined a career in film, he’s embraced the opportunity with characteristic humility and curiosity. Cast members say he brought warmth and wisdom to the set — and more than a few stories from the golden age of baseball.

“He’s the kind of guy you just want to sit and listen to,” said co-star David Ortiz. “He’s lived it all, and now he’s showing us a whole new side.”

Premiering This December

Home for the Holidays: A Baseball Christmas is set to premiere December 8, 2025, on the Hallmark Channel as part of its annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming. It promises laughter, tears, nostalgia — and a little baseball magic.

Whether you’re a die-hard Cubs fan, a holiday movie lover, or just someone who believes in the power of community, this film offers something special.

As Jenkins puts it, “The game gave me everything. Now I get to give something back — and have a little fun doing it.”
