Sandy Koufax to Star in Hallmark Holiday Movie Alongside Fellow Legends

Los Angeles, May 23, 2025 — Baseball icon Sandy Koufax, the legendary left-hander whose name is etched in the annals of Los Angeles Dodgers history, is set to appear in an upcoming Hallmark Channel holiday film. The announcement has stirred excitement across generations of baseball fans and film lovers alike, as one of the sport’s most revered figures steps into the spotlight once again — this time, on screen.

The film, titled “A Holiday Curveball,” features a heartwarming storyline that intertwines baseball, family, and the spirit of giving. It brings together several retired Major League Baseball stars, including Koufax, in a nostalgic and festive story about healing old wounds, rediscovering love for the game, and embracing second chances.

A New Role for a Timeless Legend

Koufax, now 89 years old, has remained a private figure since retiring in 1966 at the peak of his career. His participation in this holiday project marks a rare public appearance — and his first-ever scripted acting role.

“I never thought I’d be in a Christmas movie,” Koufax said in a light-hearted promotional video released by Hallmark. “But the story hit home. It’s about legacy, about mentorship, and about believing again — in baseball and in each other.”

The film’s plot centers around a fictional former ballplayer who, after years of estrangement from his family and his hometown, returns during the holidays to help revive a community baseball league in danger of shutting down. Koufax plays a mentor figure — a quiet, wise presence who guides the main character through memories, regrets, and, ultimately, redemption.

Joining Koufax in the cast are fellow baseball greats including Cal Ripken Jr., Ken Griffey Jr., and Dodgers favorite Orel Hershiser. Though the players appear as fictionalized versions of themselves, their real-life charisma and life lessons bring authenticity to the story.

“This isn’t just a movie for baseball fans,” said director Rachel Donovan. “It’s for anyone who’s ever had a dream, lost it, and found the courage to pick it back up again. Having someone like Sandy Koufax — who represents excellence, humility, and grace — brings that message to life in the most powerful way.”

A Legend Beyond the Game

Sandy Koufax is no stranger to the spotlight, though he has long shunned it. His career with the Dodgers — both in Brooklyn and Los Angeles — is the stuff of legend: three Cy Young Awards, four no-hitters, one perfect game, and a lifetime ERA of 2.76. He was the youngest player ever inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972, and he remains a symbol of greatness and class in American sports.

Yet Koufax’s quiet dignity has often overshadowed the man behind the legend. This film, producers say, gives viewers a chance to see him in a more personal, human light.

“He’s not just ‘Sandy Koufax the pitcher’ here,” Donovan added. “He’s Sandy Koufax the storyteller, the friend, the mentor. And he’s wonderful.”

Dodgers Fans Overjoyed

News of Koufax’s involvement in the movie was met with a wave of emotion from Dodgers fans and baseball historians alike. Social media erupted with messages of love, admiration, and curiosity about his acting chops.

“This is the Christmas miracle we didn’t know we needed,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Sandy Koufax in a Hallmark movie? Count me in.”

The Dodgers organization also announced they’ll host a special screening at Dodger Stadium during the holiday season, with themed giveaways, holiday music, and a video message from Koufax himself.

Premiering This December

A Holiday Curveball is slated to premiere December 15, 2025, as part of Hallmark’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” lineup. The film promises a feel-good blend of festive cheer, emotional storytelling, and timeless wisdom from some of baseball’s greatest ambassadors.

For Koufax, the film is a chance to connect with new audiences — and offer something heartfelt during the most meaningful season of the year.

“There’s something beautiful about coming full circle,” Koufax said in the behind-the-scenes interview. “This story reminded me of why we play the game in the first place. And maybe why we love each other, too.”
