The speculation surrounding Mike Tomlin’s job security during January has been rendered moot.
On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers officially announced a three-year contract extension for their head coach.
“Mike Tomlin’s leadership and commitment have been instrumental to the Steelers’ success over his 17-year tenure,” stated Steelers president Art Rooney II. “This contract extension reflects our confidence in his ability to lead the team back to playoff victories and championships, while upholding our legacy of excellence.”
As the longest-tenured active coach in the NFL, Tomlin epitomizes stability in Pittsburgh. Throughout his 17 seasons, he has never recorded a losing season, clinched seven AFC North titles, earned 11 playoff appearances, and guided the Steelers to two Super Bowl appearances, securing victory in Super Bowl XLIII in 2008.
