The Kansas City Chiefs have been a dominant franchise for the past four years. Irrespective of whom they have gone up against, Patrick Mahomes and Co. have had a good chance of winning the matchup. However, there has been one quarterback who has had the Chiefs’ number since entering the NFL and that has been Joe Burrow.
To date, he remains the only active NFL quarterback to have beaten Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs. Whenever Cincinnati and Kansas City go up against one another, the fans are treated to an entertaining matchup that ends up with everyone glued to the edge of their seats. This season, however, it is not a matchup that fans will see in the postseason. The 9-8 team missed the playoffs after the Chiefs lost their Week 18 game to the Broncos in a 38-0 blowout.
This has resulted in the notion that the Chiefs lost their final game on purpose to avoid facing the Bengals in the post-season. However, star tight end Travis Kelce set things straight on this narrative. The tight end wanted Joe Burrow and the Bengals to play in the playoffs but fate had other plans.
As a competitor, there is nothing more a player wants than to go up against the best of the best and beat them. Travis Kelce was quick to get angry when his brother brought up this narrative and his true competitive nature was on display. He proposed an interesting alternative to put the rumors to rest. Travis Kelce wants the Chiefs and Bengals to play a backyard football game after the season ends.
It would be great if this game becomes a reality. A Netflix special game between two of the best teams after the Super Bowl would be a massive hit.
It would have made no sense for the Chiefs to play their starters in Week 18 and risk injuring their key players just to facilitate a matchup against Cincinnati in the playoffs. The Bengals are to blame for failing to qualify for the playoffs, despite their best efforts in the final weeks of the regular season, it was a matter of too little too late for them.
