Trent Williams Will Retire from the San Francisco 49ers After 2024

Trent Williams is officially out for the year with an ankle injury he suffered in November. Williams has been in talks for a new contract, however, with his injury and the situation that the San Francisco 49ers are in, he might not get the contract he deserves. With Williams getting up there in age, it might be time for Williams to call it a career.

Trent Williams is an 11-Time Pro Bowler and Three-Time First Team All-Pro for the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders. The 6’5, 320 tackle has arguably been the best in his position for the last couple of seasons. Even with only playing seven games this season, he still ranks in the top 10 in PFF with a grade of 85.6 (7th in NFL).

Even with getting hurt this year, Williams has only played two seasons where he played every single game since 2010. Williams has dealt with head injuries, leg injuries, and hand injuries frequently. At the age of 36, those injuries will be a lot harder to come back from, as we have seen with his recent ankle injury.

If Trent Williams is to retire right now, I do think he will make the Hall of Fame. Being at the top for as long as he has deserves a lot of credit, especially with the edge rushers he had to face every week. Williams has been the best overall player for the 49ers in their last couple of seasons in the rise to the top of the NFC. Unfortunately for San Francisco, they might not get back for a long time with how their front office is dealing with the contracts. Trent Williams will be a Hall of Famer and will go down as one of the best offensive tackles in NFL history.
