The 2025 draft class for the Green Bay Packers is officially in the books. The rookies are set to showcase their talents at the rookie minicamp, which is slated for the first part of May, offering Green Bay supporters their initial glimpse of the newcomers in the team’s colors.
Heading into the draft, Green Bay focused on four areas of need: wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, and cornerback. Although they addressed these areas, it was unexpected that a cornerback was only chosen in the seventh round. Nonetheless, this group of rookies is brimming with potential. They will have the chance to demonstrate their abilities during training camp and the preseason, with some possibly securing starting positions by the first week of the season.
In a post-draft conversation with Hall of Famer Larry McCarren, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur talked about the current state of the Green Bay roster as they prepare for the 2025 season. “We’re going to see some very intense battles,” LaFleur remarked. “I believe it will drive us and bring out the best in everyone,” he added.
“We’re approaching rookie minicamp differently this year, focusing more on classroom sessions and walkthroughs rather than on-field activities, to get the rookies used to our environment and methods. This will prepare them for what’s ahead in Phase 2.” The Packers are gearing up for stiff competition on both offense and defense.
LaFleur confirmed that Jordan Morgan and Rasheed Walker would be contending for the starting left tackle spot. Meanwhile, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden, and Romeo Doubs will all vie for the leading receiver position during camp.
On the defensive side, Green Bay is seeking a clear second edge rusher to support Rashan Gary, with Lukas Van Ness, Brenton Cox Jr., Barryn Sorrell, and Collin Oliver all competing for the role. Competition tends to elevate a player’s performance, and the Packers will need everyone at their peak to make a Super Bowl comeback. If the team can unite and execute the right strategies, they’ll be a formidable force.
