The Phillies have announced that they’ve designated the Infielder for assignment. Taking his place on the active roster is Weston Wilson, who was activated from the 10-day injured list. Because he is out of league options, he couldn’t be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley without first clearing waivers. With this move, the Phillies now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
He was acquired from the Tigers during the 2022-23 offseason in the trade that also brought Gregory Soto to Philadelphia, with Matt Vierling, Nick Maton, and Donny Sands going to Detroit. Over the past two seasons, Clemens has filled a utility role for the team, though his lack of options in 2025 has limited that flexibility. He has yet to record a hit in seven plate appearances this year and holds a career slash line of .220/.265/.394 across 275 plate appearances with the Phillies.
The son of MLB legend Roger Clemens, Kody Clemens has yet to find sustained success in the majors but has a solid track record in Triple-A. Over four seasons at that level, he’s slashed .259/.331/.507 with 63 home runs, 50 doubles, 19 triples, and 22 stolen bases in 287 games. A left-handed hitter with defensive versatility, Clemens has played every infield spot except shortstop and has also logged time in both corner outfield positions.
The Phillies have up to five days to trade Clemens or place him on outright waivers. If placed on waivers, the process takes 48 hours, meaning he could remain in DFA limbo for up to a week. Any team that acquires him via trade or waiver claim would need to add him to their major league roster.
As for Wilson, the 30-year-old has become a valuable bench option since making his debut in 2023 at age 28. He’s posted an impressive .288/.375/.490 line in 120 big league plate appearances. Most of his success has come against left-handed pitchers, against whom he’s slashed .241/.412/.614, while struggling more against right-handers with a .227/.277/.364 mark.
