The San Francisco 49ers seem primed to trade or cut ties with wide receiver Deebo Samuel. If that happens, the Pittsburgh Steelers will almost certainly be one of the teams interested in landing the former All-Pro wideout.

However, they will not be the only team that wants to land Samuel. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN pointed to what is a strong market for Samuel, but teams are simply waiting to see if Samuel will be traded or cut.

“I just checked in on this,” Fowler said. “I was told that several teams have expressed interest, so at least preliminary talks on a potential trade have happened between Samuel, his agent and the team.”

Samuel is still just 29 years old, but is coming off one of his least productive seasons in the NFL. That could leave him on the outs in San Francisco, who have already given him permission to seek a trade elsewhere.

Samuel had just over 600 yards last season and dealt with a calf strain for much of the year, limiting his explosiveness. Injuries have racked up over his career, and he is heading into the last year of a massive extension he signed with the 49ers.

The Steelers, if they did trade for him, would likely trade a day-three pick, but it seems likely that Samuel might get cut anyway. That could lead to the Steelers signing him instead without having to give up any draft picks.
