The New York Jets brought in quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer, with high hopes of revitalizing the team. Sadly, things didn’t go as planned. Rodgers sustained an Achilles injury during his debut regular-season game with the Jets, ending his season prematurely.
Despite being able to participate in all 17 games in 2024 and throwing 28 touchdown passes, the Jets only managed to secure five victories. Consequently, the team has decided to part ways with him this offseason. It remains to be seen where Rodgers will end up, should he opt to continue his career in the league.
Speculation about his future is rife, and Fletcher Mackel of WDSU 6 News proposed a list of potential teams for Rodgers, intriguingly connecting him to the San Francisco 49ers. “San Francisco 49ers,” Mackel noted. “Rodgers, who was raised in the Bay Area, was a fan of the 49ers and idolized Joe Montana.
He almost realized his childhood dream when San Francisco held the No. 1 overall pick in 2005, but they chose Alex Smith instead, and Rodgers was picked 24th by the Packers. Brock Purdy is up for a contract extension on his rookie deal, and owner Jed York recently expressed a desire to keep him in San Francisco for the long term.
Yet, after missing the playoffs this year following a Super Bowl appearance, Rodgers might be seen as the key to another deep playoff run.” The 49ers are expected to be competitive in the NFC in 2024, but they have Brock Purdy. It would be surprising if they decided to move on from him this offseason. However, could a season with Rodgers be worth considering?
