The Green Bay Packers appear uncertain about cornerback Jaire Alexander’s future, as they have neither cut nor traded him despite offseason speculation about his potential departure. It seems plausible that the Packers are waiting to see the outcome of the NFL Draft before making a final decision on the two-time Pro Bowler.
Freddie Boston from Lombardi Ave speculates that Green Bay might find Alexander’s successor by orchestrating a major draft trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Boston envisions the Packers trading away their No. 54 pick and a seventh-round selection to the Eagles in exchange for the 64th and 96th overall picks.
With the second-round choice acquired from Philadelphia, Boston predicts the Packers will select Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison. “Benjamin Morrison has first-round skills but might drop due to his injury history,” Boston noted. “I can already envision Packers fans lamenting the idea of swapping one injury-prone cornerback for another.
However, at the 64th pick, Morrison could be the draft’s biggest bargain.” Morrison played only six games last season, recording 20 tackles and four pass breakups. Nonetheless, during his freshman year in 2022, he amassed 33 tackles and six interceptions, followed by 31 tackles, three picks, and 10 pass defenses the next season.
At 21, he is indisputably among the top defensive back prospects in the upcoming draft, though his hip surgery might deter some teams. Green Bay can afford to gamble, and securing Morrison on Day 2 could prove to be an incredible acquisition.
