The Miami Dolphins maintain their confidence in Tua Tagovailoa, but the front office recognizes the necessity of supporting the quarterback for his success. During the second day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, the team ensured the retention of a former Super Bowl winner with Tom Brady.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter announced that seasoned linebacker Quinton Bell will stay with the Dolphins for the 2025 season, signing a one-year deal worth $1.5 million. Bell, who will turn 29 in May, was approaching free agency as the Dolphins chose not to offer a tender, a decision that would have cost at least $3,263,000. This move allows Miami to save nearly $2 million while retaining a player who proved valuable last season.
Despite having a Super Bowl ring, Bell didn’t truly shine until 2024. Joining Tua’s Dolphins in October 2023, Bell initially played on the team’s practice squad. However, 2024 became a breakthrough year for him, as the linebacker participated in all 17 regular-season games, logging 257 defensive snaps and 372 on special teams.
Before his Miami tenure, Bell was part of four different NFL teams, including a two-year period with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he earned a Super Bowl ring during the 2020 season, a year marked by Brady leading the team to victory after departing the New England Patriots.
Throughout his career, Bell has accumulated one sack, one forced fumble, four tackles for loss, and 30 tackles in 26 appearances. He continues to solidify a crucial area on the field for the Dolphins, who also rely on edge rushers Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, and Mohamed Kamara. Bell is thrilled to remain in Miami.
“Fins Up! Let’s get to work,” Bell expressed on his X account upon the news of his return. Although his stint with the Bucs brought him a Super Bowl ring, Bell only began to stand out during the 2024 season with the Dolphins. Not long ago, he shared what playing for Miami signifies in his career.
“The Dolphins are the first team to genuinely offer me a chance to participate in a regular season, play, improve, and grow as a player contributing to his team,” Bell mentioned in an interview with the Miami Herald before his contract extension. “I feel like I have found a home here. I love it here. I admire my coaches and the trust and confidence they have in me. It would be incredible to run it back.”
