Vikings Agree to Terms with LB Andrew Van Ginkel on 1-Year, $23 Million Extension
Minneapolis, MN — The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement on a one-year, $23 million contract extension with standout linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, the team announced Tuesday.
Van Ginkel, 28, has been a key contributor on defense since joining the Vikings, known for his relentless motor, versatility, and ability to make plays in both pass coverage and the run game. The extension reflects Minnesota’s commitment to bolstering its defense with experienced, high-impact players as they look to remain competitive in a tough NFC North.
“Andrew has brought a high level of intensity and professionalism since day one,” said Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. “We’re excited to keep him in purple and gold for another season.”
Originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2019, Van Ginkel signed with the Vikings ahead of the 2024 season and quickly made his presence felt. In his first year with Minnesota, he recorded 9.5 sacks, 75 tackles, and two forced fumbles — career highs across the board.
His leadership on and off the field has also made him a favorite in the locker room. Head coach Kevin O’Connell praised Van Ginkel’s consistency and work ethic, calling him “a cornerstone of our defensive identity.”
With this extension, the Vikings continue their offseason strategy of retaining key talent and building a defense capable of challenging the top offenses in the league. Van Ginkel’s new deal positions him among the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL for the 2025 season.
